Installation and License Activation
Below are the Geotec installation and license activation procedures.
Updating Geotec
Below are the steps to update Geotec. The latest update is available in the Downloads page. Updates are available for all subscription licenses and for perpetual licenses with an active GeoPlus contract. Please ensure that your GeoPlus contract is active on the date of the update. Otherwise, older versions are available in the Archives.
- Close all Geotec modules on the workstation, or on all workstations linked to the server
- Copy the Geotec\Bin directory as backup
- Download and unzip the update in Geotec\Bin and replace everything
- Update your database with DBM
System Recommendations
Geotec requires few resources. Below are our recommendations for best use, but they are not firm requirements.
Software
Geotec can be installed on a server to which users have access or on a workstation.
- Windows 10 or greater
- 100MB disk space
- 4GB RAM or more
- 2.2GHz processor, dual-core or greater
- Hard disk with 10 GB free (on SSD ideally)
- 1 Gbps network connection
Microsoft Access database
An MS Access Geotec database does not require the installation of Microsoft Office Access. The access to the database is managed by ODBC (Open DataBase Connectivity). We do not recommend that more than 4 users work in the DB on a network at the same time. Beyond this number, the access slows down. An Access DB can become problematic when it reaches an approximate size of 200MB.
- Disk space between 30MB and 200 MB
SQL Server database
A Geotec database on SQL Server is recommended for companies with multiple users and lots of geotechnical data. This type of database requires the installation of a Database Management System (DBMS).
- Windows Server (2022, 2019, 2016)
- SQL Server 2019, 2017, 2016, 2014, 2012, 2008 – not provided by Sobek
- 8GB RAM or more
- 2.2GHz processor, dual-core or greater
- Hard disk of 100GB or more
Oracle database
Similarly to SQL Server, a Geotec database on Oracle is recommended for companies or public organisms with multiple users and lots of geotechnical data. This type of database requires the installation of a Database Management System (DBMS).
- Windows Server (2022, 2019, 2016)
- Oracle version 12c, 11g – not provided by Sobek
- 12GB RAM or more
- 2.2GHz processor, quad-core or greater
- Hard disk of 100GB or more
